Card index on the topic: Games based on fairy tales. Mysteries of fairy-tale heroes

Homemade game Storyteller, designed for two players. Each participant in this game takes on the role of J. R. R. Tolkien and must write “The Hobbit” before his opponent does.

Here's what he writes about the game

Attention! The photo shows the still unfinished design of the first version of the game. Now I have made a change - instead of 6 chips (pictured) we use 8. The design of the cards has become more functional - instead of one inscription at the bottom, there are two numbers - at the top and at the bottom - it’s more convenient to play. I won’t print the second version of the design yet, because... I ran out of cardboard at home, and the printer was already “tired”...

Rules of the game "Storyteller"

Number of players: 2

Time per game: 15 minutes

Game difficulty: low

Mastery: fast

Game set

Playing field - 2 pcs. (each player) - files book1 and book2

Game cards - 60 pcs. - files cards1, cards2, cards3

Game chips - 8 pcs. (they are not here, you can choose them yourself)

How to print

We open each game field file (files book1 and book2) in Photoshop. Set paper size A4 (i.e. A4 paper format), then select orientation landscape (i.e. landscape orientation) to print the page. Then, in the scaled print size parameter, check the scale to fit media box (to print the maximum size on the page) - I get a scale of 58.23% of the original (height - 20.134 cm, width - 25.679 cm). We print 2 copies. Trim the edges. We glue both pairs in the middle with transparent adhesive tape, we get 2 fields.

Now we print game cards (files cards1, cards2, cards3). Photoshop. Set paper size A4 (i.e. A4 paper format), then select orientation portrait (i.e. portrait orientation) to print the page. Then in the scaled print size parameter we set 45.59% of the original (height - 23.639 cm, width - 16.082 cm). This is my original size of cards. You can of course experiment with the scale. We print the cards1 and cards2 files twice, and the cards3 file once. We cut it.

We get 60 cards. 12 [sheet 1] + 12 [sheet 1] +12 [sheet 2] +12 [sheet 2] +12 [sheet 3].

How it all began…

One lovely summer day, Professor Tolkien fell asleep in his comfortable chair. And he dreamed that his reflection in the mirror was trying to finish his story about the glorious hobbit and publish the book before he, the real one. The professor didn’t like the idea of a double and decided to write a book faster than his reflection at all costs! Forward, he told himself, to the table! Write! Write!

Purpose of the game

Every player believes that he is a real Tolkien. His task is to be faster than his opponent and write “The Hobbit” first. To do this, according to special rules, you need to fill all the cells of your playing field with playing cards.

Preparing for the game

We print. We cut it. Each player is given 4 chips (no matter what colors, shapes and sizes) and one playing field - this is the plan for the future story. Each field consists of 19 game cells and one informative one - it does not participate in the game and reminds only of the order of actions (the phases of the turn). Each player, having received 4 chips, places them on different playing cells of the OPPONENT’S field, not for himself. The dealer also gives 6 cards to each player. The remaining cards are stacked face down. We will call this stack a stack of playing cards.

Progress of the game

They take turns. It is determined who goes first. Next, to make his move, the first player must CONSISTENTLY perform the following actions. First, you need to take 1 card from the stack of playing cards (now he has 7 cards in his hands). Now he can use any card from his hand (any of the 7). If a player has cards in his hand that say “Give 1-2-3 cards!”, he may (but must not) place one such card face up on the table in what we will call the game card discard space. After that, he draws the number of cards indicated on the discarded card from his opponent's hand and adds them to his hand. There is one caveat - see point No. 3 of the “Game Features” section.

All other game cards besides the “Give 1-2-3 cards!” are manuscripts of one or another chapter of a fairy tale. These cards indicate the chapter number. After a player has carried out the phase of removing cards from his opponent's hand (and he could skip it), he can put ANY manuscript card in his hand on the corresponding cell of his playing field on which the chip stands (he placed it at the beginning of the game your opponent). The number indicated on such a card must match the chapter number of the specific cell with the chip. Because on the entire playing field of one player there are 4 enemy chips, the player has 4 possible options for placing manuscript cards. If he has the corresponding cards (or 1 card), he selects and places ONE of them on the cell he needs with the same number and removes a chip from it on the table, the opponent must IMMEDIATELY put this chip on any other cell of the player’s field that is not occupied other chips and not occupied by manuscript cards. Now the first player on the playing field again has 4 chips on “empty” cells.

However, the walking player might not have the required card in his hand. Then he simply skips the phase of placing cards on the field. After this, the move is considered over.

So, the sequence of actions during a move is as follows - 1) take one card from the pile, 2) take away cards from your opponent, 3) place one manuscript card on the field. Actions 2 and 3 are optional - they are performed to the extent possible and desired. In practice, it usually wouldn't even occur to anyone to skip these phases if they have the cards they need to play. After one player has completed the specified actions, the turn passes to the other player. He does everything the same.

If you have few cards or no cards at all (the enemy took them all), then you may skip a turn. To do this, the player declares out loud “I’m missing a move!” and takes 3 cards from the stack of playing cards, but now it is no longer possible to perform any actions during this turn. The turn passes to the other player. That is, if you go as usual, you take one card at the beginning of your turn and can use it immediately; if you miss a turn, you take 3 cards and wait for your next turn.

Ending the game

As already noted, each player strives to cover all 19 cells of his playing field with manuscript cards faster than his opponent. The winner is the player who placed the last card on the last free cell with a chip. The game then ends.

The winner is considered to be the real Tolkien, who was able to surpass his mirror double and curb his inner fears.

Game Features

1. As soon as the stack of playing cards on the table ends, and all discarded cards move into a single discard pile for everyone, this discard pile is shuffled, and the cards are again laid out in one pile face down in the middle of the table. Now this stack can be used as before, but with one caveat. Remember that now the entire stack consists of cards of the form “Give 1-2-3 cards!”, so after forming a new stack of such cards, skipping a turn and taking 3 cards from it is PROHIBITED. Each player only draws one card at the start of their turn and can use it during their turn.

2. As the cells are filled with manuscript cards, a situation is created where at first there is nowhere to put one chip, then 2, then 3 and, finally, 4 chips. In these situations, the chips are simply put aside.

3. You cannot use “Give 1-2-3 cards!” cards, which can take away more cards from your opponent than he has in his hand. For example, if he has one card left in his hands, it can only be taken away with the “Give 1 card!” card, “Give 2 cards!” and “Give me 3 cards!” in this case it cannot be used. Keep them with you, they will come in handy - you can select the required amount later.
