SWITCHING CAMERA (FIXED CAMERA)

There was a time when the series (hereinafter - PES) annually won sparring among the best football simulators on PC and consoles. It has always been believed that it is in PES the developers managed to bring the simulation as close as possible to real football, which was not the case with the licensed EA Sports product. However, there is a HUGE disadvantage that you can hardly ignore - most clubs and leagues are not licensed and therefore developers have to use fictitious names from year to year.

London FC instead of Chelsea, Merseyside Blue instead of Everton, etc.

Unfortunately, the same licensing problems will apply to , but don’t rush to judge the project harshly. PES could and can offer something that is constantly missing FIFA, despite the presence of practically perfect and close to ideal models of Jose Mourinho and other football players. We are happy to announce that Konami has lifted the lid on its new project, and now we can tell you what to expect in the new iteration of the football series.

Barcelona stars appear on the cover

Konami previously entered into a premium partnership with Barcelona. The company has been cooperating with the “blue garnets” for several years and, it should be noted, this year everything will happen again. After EA Sports decided to use Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo on the cover, PES hit back, saying that at least five Barça players would be on the cover of their disc.

Luis Suarez, Andreas Iniesta, Neymar (although due to his transfer to PSG this fact is in question), Rafinha and, of course, Lionel Messi. Looks like Konami is trying to fight FIFA, putting as many big-name players on the cover as can fit on it. However, this thing isn't entirely new to the franchise. PES usually features more than one player on the game cover.

But, looking ahead, I would like to note that the partnership agreement with Barcelona is not limited to these five players and the possibility of using the real name of the club.

Camp Nou will be exclusive to PES

Launch , select Barcelona and be prepared to be disappointed. The unparalleled atmosphere of the Camp Nou stadium transcended the EA Sports game, which was a real shame considering Barca are one of the most popular teams on the planet. Nowadays, Nou Camp is only available in open spaces PES- This is a real coup for Konami.

In a sense, this fact poses a choice for football fans and fans of simulators. They can choose FIFA, play for Messi and Neymar, but do it in some kind of universal stadium for many teams, which is definitely not similar to the Nou Camp, or choose in favor PES. The problem with the latest title is that almost all of the Spanish La Liga teams will not have an official stadium. As you can see, the scales are constantly tipping one way or the other.

Perhaps all this superficiality is not what attracts you to football. Nowadays, many people enjoy playing in real stadiums of their favorite club, so the impossibility of using Nou Camp in FIFA is undoubtedly a blow to EA Sports and their title.

The PC version will be equivalent to the console versions

This fact may be somewhat repulsive for PC owners with powerful machines. The bright and unsurpassed lights of the No Camp on PC will look the same as on the console versions. Indeed, last year Konami really turned pale because they couldn't figure out what happened to the PC version. The game looked exactly the same as on older consoles - PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

This is unforgivable, as PC gamers spend a lot of money on upgrading their devices to provide the most realistic gaming experience possible. Konami will fix all these shortcomings and promises that PES 2018 will not suffer from such disadvantages. Now the developers claim that PES 2018 in terms of optimization it will be the same for all formats.

The game will appear before the release of FIFA

This could be a real treat for football fans and fans of digital versions. Let us remind you that the release date is scheduled for September 29, but Konami decided to take a step a couple of weeks earlier and release PES 2018 already September 12 in the USA and 14 in the rest of the world.

It's obvious that Konami wants to skim off early sales and entice gamers to buy their project first. This seems like a smart strategy because PES cannot compete because of the hype and PR campaign that the creators are organizing FIFA. Konami will be able to benefit from a gaming community that is becoming even more impatient every year.

These two weeks may well be a long time for PES. If the game is successful, the PC version will work without freezes and other problems, there will be even more teams with real names, then those who buy FIFA due to the license, may well be satisfied with the product from Konami.

The game won't be coming to Nintendo Switch this year

One thing Nintendo Switch owners are looking forward to is a digital copy PES 2018 on their new console. While EA is busy talking about the uniqueness of the version FIFA 18 for this console, Konami has not said anything about the Switch version of the game.

This doesn't mean that PES will never appear on this console, but we can definitely say that this will not happen this year. The game has not been seen on Nintendo consoles since its release PES 2014 on 3DS in 2014.

If the Switch shows signs of durability, proves that this console will be used for several more years, then the release of the corresponding version PES will become real. For now PES 2018 will appear on the following platforms - PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One.

Usain Bolt will be in the game

For those who don't know, myClub is a unique version of Ultimate Team from FIFA, created under PES. The mode is practically no different from what it was before, but in PES 2018 will give players a completely random bonus for pre-ordering football. For the first time in history, Usain Bolt will appear in the game.

Fans of the Jamaican sprinter, a self-confessed football fan, should be delighted! It is included in the pre-order bonus for the highly anticipated game. Moving away from the topic of fanaticism, it is worth noting that Bolt will become the FASTEST football player in the game. Yes, even faster than Ronaldo, Messi and other stars.

Usain Bolt in PES 2018

The athlete has repeatedly stated that he would like to take up football in the future and even trained with Borussia Dortmund. However, it is quite strange to hear Peter Drury talk about Usain as if he were a football veteran in the trailer. At least with this Konami wants to emphasize its uniqueness.

You can also play as Diego Maradona

After all this madness associated with Bolt, it seems more reliable information that in PES 2018 Diego Armando Maradona will be included. The Argentinean, the boy who loves the ball, will not be the only legend to be included in the football simulator, but he nevertheless appears for the first time in the series. And since he is in the past one of the two best football players in the world (Pelé and Maradona), this fact is justified.

Maradona will also help promote PES 2018, acting as an ambassador for the game, which is another strategy that highlights the differences between FIFA And PES. Whereas EA favors modern stars like Ronaldo to narrate the game, Konami respects football history and goes back in time. This may be reasonable since the company cannot offer the same thing as FIFA(take the same Ronaldo).

Playing for Maradona PES 2018 should be a great pleasure, as he will become quite a cunning and agile attacking midfielder with unrivaled dribbling ability and powerful and accurate shots. Unfortunately, we cannot say for sure whether he will be playable outside of myClub mode.

New mechanics for completing standards

Those who have perfected the technique will argue that there is nothing wrong with the system used in PES 2017, did not have. Corner shots were much more reliable and realistic than in FIFA. Bye FIFA did not use “dead balls”, PES had better free kick mechanics. This year, Konami decided to take a step back.

Right now it's not clear what this means, but we do know that in PES 2018 The mechanics of taking free kicks and corners will be significantly different from what we are used to seeing. Besides, PES will also add a new throw of the ball from the center of the field with the presence of one player, as has become customary to do in real football.

The Master League mode will be updated

Career modes FIFA has its problems, but it is much more polished and developed than the Master League in PES. That's not to say that Konami's Manager Mode is too bad - it just looks a lot more archaic next to EA's product and needs some attention. This year the developers finally realized it.

The old system of transfer restrictions has been replaced with a new, more realistic one, and the presentation has been completely redesigned. There is now a pre-season feature that will allow aspiring managers to work with tactics. There will probably be many more changes that we are simply not aware of!

This week, Konami officially announced the launch of the PES 2018 project, using the same engine that was introduced several years ago and which is progressing very much from year to year.

This year, Konami promised that PES 2018 there will be the biggest changes in the series in the last decade and that not a single part of the game has remained untouched, literally everything has been changed, from graphics to various functions.

Gameplay of the game

As you would expect, many elements have been refined in PES 2018, taking the best from different parts of this series of games, this was done with the aim of adding more authenticity to the game. Dribbling has been completely redesigned to give the user more control over players. At the same time, the developers have simplified the manual control functions so that players can play with this control without any difficulties. The developers also talked about the realistic movements and animations of football players, PES 2018 features smooth movements, allowing players to have more control over the direction of their feet.

Presentation

In this version of the game, the presentation of the match was completely redone, we can say it's time to evolve in this direction. The developers' experience has shown that it's time to do something new that will have an important role in every match. There will be a completely new design, the user interface and menu will also change in a way that will surprise many.

PES league integration

PES 2018 will build on the continued success of eSports competitions, which last years are gaining enormous popularity. Esports will continue to be integrated into the game itself. We remind you that the PES League now has new modes, including the online MyClub mode, random qualifiers and online co-op matches, where there is a lot of fun.

Online

Many of you campaigned for the corporate regime plan to be implemented and now it is finally back. New mode will be dedicated not only to 2v2 co-op play, but also 3v3, and will also receive a number of additional features to improve the balance of the game. There will also be support from local guests. This means you can play with friends or just play completely alone.

New modes and features

We all know the popular Master League mode, this year it will receive a significant improvement, which includes an improved transfer system and new presentation elements, there will be much more of them and they will be longer. The mode also further immerses users into the life of a professional manager with pre-season tournaments and new presentation elements including pre-match interviews and locker room scenes. Probably many people immediately remember the good old versions of PES, where there were similar graphic elements.

Enhanced Visual Reality

It seems that there is room to improve the visual part of the game, it has grown very much in recent years, but the developers are also working on this element so that the graphics do not lag behind modern consoles and personal computers. Absolutely new system Real Capture recreates the authenticity of football in PES 2018, right down to the smallest details, where even the creases in the players' skin will be visible.

The advantage of the FOX engine is that it has enormous graphical potential. Including true colors, correct stadium lighting for day and night matches, shadow mapping, tunnel rendering, which were recreated from over 20,000 pieces of authentic data collected from different stadiums.

Significant improvements to the PC version

Probably the most important message from the game developers, which will please most of the PES community. PC Pro version Evolution Soccer 2018 will receive significant improvements in terms of graphics and all content. This will give huge parity compared to the versions on PS4 and Xbox One; one might even say that the PC version will surpass the console versions in terms of graphics for the first time in four years. But we warn you right away that for an excellent picture you must have a modern personal computer, and not a dusty box from 2014.

Each genre has at least two games that strongly compete for the attention of gamers. In shooters, such games are Call of Duty and Battlefield, in Gran Turismo and Forza racing, in fighting games Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter and Tekken, and in football simulators Pro Evolution Soccer and FIFA. From year to year Konami and Electronic Arts release new versions of these games, offering players new features and improvements. In this review we will look and try to find out whether the game deserves its name new part in the series, or it’s just a slightly improved one.

Graphic arts

The first thing you notice in a football simulator immediately after launch is the graphics. Every year it is extremely interesting to see how much the developers have improved the animations, the realism of the football players' models, the detail of objects in the stadium, weather conditions and other components of the visual elements. Looking at Pro Evolution Soccer 2018, unfortunately, it’s impossible to see a revolutionary or even just an excellent picture, at least not everywhere.

Character facial animations still look very unnatural. Football players sometimes make such grimaces that upon detailed study it is difficult to understand whether they are happy or angry after scoring a goal. However, oddly enough, the facial animation does not look bad for all models of football players, but only for a certain number of “selected” ones.

When you watch football players on television, the graphics look pretty good. It’s easy to notice that Pro Evolution Soccer 2018 has become truly more beautiful than the previous part, but, unfortunately, it’s impossible to call this development in the visual component revolutionary. In some moments the game has become much more beautiful, in others everything has remained almost unchanged. For example, the field looks much better, and the ball received more realistic physics behavior. However, the fans, players' uniforms, hair and many other small details remained unchanged.

Perhaps if Pro Evolution Soccer 2018 were the only football simulator on the market, the picture would be perceived much more fresh, but due to the fact that FIFA exists with its Frostbite Engine and more developed models of football players, the difference is obvious, and it is clearly not in favor of a product from Konami.

Modes and licenses

PES has always been good with modes, but “not bad”, unfortunately, has not changed in any way or been supplemented with any new things for several years. The situation remained exactly the same in the case of PES 2018. It is clear that the developers are following the established rules and very carefully introducing some innovations. Konami chose the path of improving the old rather than inventing something new.

The game's online mode is still not up to par with what EA offers in latest games FIFA, but at the same time it received some improvements. The search for opponents happens quite quickly on PS4 Pro, the stability of the game is high, and the selection itself is carried out much more thoughtfully than before. However, the game still remains more single-player than multiplayer, in particular due to the lack of a sane career with licensed teams, but more on that later.
Thankfully, the co-op mode has gotten a lot better. Players have access to two-on-two and three-on-three modes. local cooperative. In addition, you can play a mode with a random selection of a player, with whom the cooperative game against one team or another. All this was implemented perfectly.

Unfortunately, with licenses in PES 2018 everything is still very bad. The game still does not have many clubs, stadiums and the most popular leagues, although, of course, the in-game editor allows you to correct the situation, but it certainly cannot be considered a worthy replacement for a license.

Gameplay

The Pro Evolution Soccer series of football simulators has always been mediocre graphics, unlicensed, and simply stunning game process on the field. In PES 2018 everything is still excellent in terms of the overall match experience. A very important advantage of the game is that the style of many teams is absolutely individual. Due to this, the product requires the player to constantly experiment with combinations.

In PES 2018, you won't be able to learn the same tactic well and play with it against all teams in the same scenario. Some unforeseen moments constantly occur in a match, which is the core that allows the game to be called a real football simulator.

Football players also behave very differently, which can be felt from the first minutes of the match. Each player on the field is individual, with his own strengths and weaknesses, which makes the matches very realistic. You want to study every football player and watch what he does on the field. Konami has once again proven that it knows how to make football virtual.

Controls, interface and sound

The tactile sensations from interacting with each football player are very high. Thanks to the sophisticated controls in PES 2018, it is very easy to catch every detail that happens during a match. Tackling the ball, dribbling, dribbling, feints - all this is done extremely responsive and flexible. In addition, ball control has become a little more realistic compared to the previous part, and the behavior of the ball on the field now allows you to believe for a second that you are watching real football.

Despite all the advantages of responsive controls, I can’t praise the game’s interface. When you first start PES 2018, it is very difficult to remember where which menu is, etc. In addition, the interface is inconvenient not only in the main menu, but also in the in-game one. Even a simple substitution and viewing the fatigue of a football player in Pro Evolution Soccer 2018 is very inconvenient, especially in comparison with FIFA.

Sound can be divided into two parts: good and bad. The good thing is that there are a large number of soundtracks and a good simulation of fans’ cries, which has a very positive effect on the atmosphere. However, the bad sound is due to the commentators. Firstly, commentators still don’t know how to speak Russian, and secondly, even in English they sound very monotonous and somehow unnatural. As a result, sometimes you get the feeling that the game was commented on by ordinary guys who were somewhere in a pub drinking a bottle of beer while watching football.

Results

Pro Evolution Soccer 2018 has once again failed to take a long step forward. In the game you can again see problems with commentators, lack of licenses and unrealistic animation of the players' faces. In addition, another unpleasant moment is Neymar with Barcelona on the main cover of the game. For those who don't know, Neymar has recently been playing for PSG. It seems like a small thing, but it’s unpleasant.

Even though the game didn't take a long step forward, it did take a few short steps in the right direction. Konami has worked on a lot of details, including ball physics, co-op mode and stability in multiplayer matches. However, the main advantage of Pro Evolution Soccer 2018 is truly its mechanics of real, genuine and very diverse football in terms of playing styles. Fans of the series will certainly love the game, but gamers from the neighboring camp will most likely not have enough innovations to completely wean themselves off FIFA.
