Story

1919: Renaming to "Goznak"

After the October Revolution, the EZGB was transformed into the Directorate of State Paper Procurement Factories, or Goznak for short. The reform was carried out on the basis of the “Regulations on the management of factories for the production of Soviet state signs,” which was approved by the People's Commissariat of Finance of the RSFSR on June 6, 1919.

In 1919, the board of Goznak was transferred to Moscow. The Moscow, Petrograd, Penza, and then the Perm and Rostov factories were subordinate to him.

In later Soviet times, the full name of Goznak sounded like the Main Directorate for the Production of State Signs, Coins and Orders, which was subordinate to the USSR Ministry of Finance. Goznak united paper and printing factories, mints.

Postage signs

Postage signs printed at Goznak enterprises were prepared at DIEZPO. At the same time, Goznak printing enterprises printed not only all Soviet postal signs, but also carried out orders for a number of foreign countries. The Moscow Printing Factory of Goznak (MPFG) was responsible for the publication of postage stamps; On an experimental basis, several series of stamps (DFA (ITC “Marka”) #3815-3819, 4536-4540 and some others) were printed at the Moscow Printing House of Goznak (MTG). Whole items, including single-sided postcards with original stamps, were printed at MTG, MPFG, as well as the Perm Printing Factory of Goznak.

Document forms

Goznak enterprises printed forms of Soviet documents. Among them, forms of education documents of a unified state standard (matriculation certificates, diplomas, etc.) were produced using a special color rendering technology to exclude counterfeits. They looked like a single typographically executed, double-folding form in a thick cardboard cover. All forms were documents of special storage and issue and bore an individual number.

1818: Foundation of the Expedition for the procurement of government securities under the Ministry of Finance

The enterprise was founded by a decision of the State Council of Russia at the end of the summer of 1818 in St. Petersburg as an Expedition for the Procurement of State Papers (EZGB) under the Ministry of Finance. Augustine Betancourt (1758-1824) took an active part in the construction and operation of the EZGB in the early years.

Banknote paper (Goznak Museum)

Goznak is currently the only manufacturer of Russian banknotes and coins, as well as state awards, medals, orders, badges, postage stamps, postcards, forms for official documents, etc. It includes: Moscow and St. Petersburg Mints; factories in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Perm and Krasnokamsk; Moscow printing house and Goznak Research Institute.

The management of Goznak organizes production at controlled enterprises, and orders for all coins and banknotes are carried out by the Bank of Russia, which does not have direct control from the state. In addition, orders for the production of other products can be carried out at the state level, or from private individuals.

Officially, the enterprise is considered a joint-stock company, but all shares are owned by the Federal Agency for State Property Management, that is, in fact, it can be called state-owned. However, absolutely all products with the Goznak logo should not be mistaken for state issues. Among the coins in gift wrapping and sets, which in Lately a great many appeared, only those should be considered official, the order for which was fulfilled by the Bank of Russia. The rest are nothing more than official Goznak souvenirs.

Story

On August 21, 1818, by decree of Alexander I, an Expedition for the Procurement of State Papers was created in St. Petersburg to replace old banknotes with new ones. Her responsibilities include paper production, development of designs for banknotes, stamps, as well as production paper money. Later, stamps, bonds, documents, etc. are printed. The equipment was set up by an engineer of Italian origin, A. Betancourt, who became the first manager of the enterprise. The building on the banks of the Fontanka River is still used for its intended purpose. The mints were then controlled by the Ministry of Finance and did not belong to the Expedition. By the beginning of the 20th century, the enterprise already included Moscow, Petrograd, Penza and Rostov printing factories.

In 1919, in connection with the preparation of the release of the first Soviet money, the company moves to Moscow, and the name changes to Goznak. In 1942, the Moscow Mint was formed in the buildings of Goznak in Moscow, from that time Goznak began to be responsible for the production of coins, and the Leningrad Mint joined it. That is, the enterprise becomes the sole producer of all money, bonds, document forms, stamps, badges, awards, etc.

In 2005, Goznak became a federal state unitary enterprise, and since 2008 it has been classified as a strategic enterprise. On June 5, 2014, by presidential decree, it was transformed into Joint-Stock Company, but all excise taxes belong to the Federal Agency.

Modern production

Material for banknote paper (Goznak Museum)

Currently, Goznak prints passports, notary and other forms (there is a note about this in small print), issues banknotes, coins, stamps, as well as various related products for public and private orders. Money is made for many other countries. For example, in 2014, 3,400 tons of paper and more than a billion banknotes were exported. Recently they began to produce electronic cards for phones. The production of postal envelopes and postcards has been discontinued.

The Goznak Research Institute is constantly developing new means of protecting money and documents from counterfeiting, and modernizing printing technologies. Every year, trial bills without denomination are issued, which have a colorful design and demonstrate new security features. Such samples are presented at various exhibitions, where they periodically become winners.

The Moscow Printing Factory of Goznak is one of the largest enterprises of the Goznak association.

Currently, the Moscow Printing Factory of Goznak, which is part of the Goznak Association, has License No. 5 07-1-05/5064 dated 08.08.2006. for the right to manufacture security printed products of levels A, B, C. All products are manufactured in full accordance with Technical requirements Ministry of Finance of the Russian Federation. In connection with the release of orders of national importance, the Decree of the Government of the Russian Federation granted Goznak the exclusive right to use metallographic and Oryol printing methods in the manufacture of printed products, ensuring the greatest protection of products from counterfeiting.

The rapid development in the world of printing technology for printing banknotes, new types of protection against counterfeiting banknotes, required Goznak to take measures to update its equipment to more high-performance and modern ones. Beginning in the 1970s, new equipment for offset and intaglio printing began to be installed and put into production at the factory. The installation of new equipment required a radical change in the entire technological process of making banknotes.

Such production areas as the casting and stereotype sections in the mold shop were eliminated. Metallographic printing technology has undergone fundamental changes. Gone are such labor-intensive and difficult production processes as soaking each sheet of a product before printing, drying in special ovens after printing, and pressing.

The use of new equipment at the Goznak association put it on a par with international enterprises producing banknotes, both for their own country and for other countries. It should be noted that the 80-90s of the last century were years of rapid development and improvement of the entire system.

The introduction of new equipment and technology made it possible to sharply reduce the process of preparing and launching new products into production, increase labor productivity several times when printing basic products, and significantly reduce the number of people employed in their production.

The launch of new equipment and the introduction of new technology during this period would not have been possible without those who mastered this technology. A large group of printers was prepared to work on new printing machines by one of the most experienced metallographic printers, N.G. Saltykov. At the initial stages of mastering the new technology, much attention was paid to one of the oldest workshop managers, A.V. Neklyudov. and his deputy Larin I.N.

GOZNAK is the successor to the oldest and unique enterprise “Expedition for Procurement of State Papers”. In 2008 he turned 190 years old. The use of electroplating, metallographic printing, and Oryol printing was a real achievement of the Expedition. GOZNAK carefully preserves the experience and traditions of old masters.

The Moscow printing factory of Goznak occupies a special place in the history of the production of banknotes in Russia. It was the main, that is, the basic enterprise with the help of which the entire system of printing production in Russia was created after the printing of banknotes in Petrograd was stopped. If in the first months and years after the revolution partial production of banknotes was carried out in Penza and in the Urals in the city of Perm, then in 1919 the last main divisions of the expedition for the procurement of state papers - the printing and form-art department - were evacuated from Petrograd to Moscow.

On July 1919, the People's Commissariat of Finance of the RSFSR approved the Regulations on the Management of State Paper Procurement Factories (Goznak). The department was located in Moscow and united the Moscow, Petrograd and Penza factories for the procurement of State papers.

On December 8, 1920, the Resolution of the Council of Labor and Defense was adopted: “All factories for the production of state signs (first and second) Moscow factories, mechanical workshops of Goznak in Moscow, Petrograd, Penza and Ural factories in Perm and the Management of Goznak factories are included in the group of shock enterprises and recognized state-military enterprise..."

This Resolution greatly contributed to the preparation of monetary reform. The first stage of the reform was marked by the issue of State Banknotes of the 1922 model by Goznak. During this period, the Government decided to concentrate the production of banknotes in two places: in Moscow, transferring all printing production from other cities, and in Petrograd, leaving a paper factory there. In 1924, the exchange rate was stabilized Soviet ruble monetary reform was completed.

The technological process of making banknotes is a very diverse and labor-intensive process, which involves a wide variety of areas of science and technology. Artists and engravers, photographers and retouchers, stereotypers and electroplaters, compositors and numbering machine manufacturers, painters and laundresses, laboratory workers supervising technological processes at all stages of production - this is only a part of those specialists who prepare the product so that it reaches the printing machine in the form of a printed form. The MPF of Goznak carried out a lot of work to prepare and provide the required number of products for the reform of 1937-1938. During this period, a new production building was built on the territory of the factory, in addition to the existing buildings of the former Brocard factory, which made it possible to organize many new production areas. During that period, the factory developed and improved its production. By 1941, it was the largest printing enterprise in the country.

The war period was a new serious test for the team. In the first months of the war, despite the existing reservations, many Goznak soldiers volunteered for the front. The other part was evacuated to the cities of Krasnokamsk and Tashkent.

In 1942, production was re-organized at the factory. One of the most important events of the war and post-war period was preparation for the provision of new banknotes model 1947. The main work on creating original samples was carried out at the Moscow Printing Factory, and then the Krasnokamsk Factory and the Moscow Printing House of Goznak participated in the printing of banknotes.

At all times of its activity in the team, the main attention was paid to the training and education of personnel. The system of individual training was widely used. Masters such as Cheblokov, Saltykov, Yakovlev, Pomansky and many others trained a large number of printers, engravers, and artists.

In 1944, a vocational school was opened on the basis of the Moscow Printing Factory, which was then transformed into the Special Technical School of Goznak. Many specialists passed through this educational institution, some of whom still work at Goznak today.

The special technical school trained specialists not only for Moscow, but also for the Krasnokamsk and Perm printing factories. In the difficult post-war year of 1946, the factory organized its own pioneer camp in a picturesque corner of the Moscow region, which has been operating for over 50 years. Retaining personnel and creating the most favorable conditions for the team has always been the factory’s primary concern. The factory had its own club, canteen, medical unit, rest home, kindergartens - all this made it possible to have a stable, highly qualified team.

By creating such conditions, the aim was to guarantee reliability in this team, both in its performance and in ensuring the secrecy of the work performed at the enterprise. During its existence, the factory team has always been distinguished by the fact that throughout the years it has included people who have passed on their rich production experience to their family members.

It is difficult to list the names of those who worked and work for entire dynasties at Goznak, among them: the Vasilievs, Galkins, Chekmarevs, Andreevs.

Unique experience in working with securities, the use of advanced technologies and the most modern equipment from well-known foreign companies in production allow us to offer customers products with a guaranteed high degree of security: banknotes; securities(shares, bonds, certificates, bills); book products - passports, certificates, passes, diplomas; congratulations, contractual and address folders; stamps - postage, tax, duty, excise, etc.

Offset, gravure and intaglio printing make it possible to reproduce complex artistic products in 4, 5, 6 colors using varnish, embossing and numbering. The rich experience of talented artists will help create a unique design in the manufacture of such products. It is also possible to produce booklets, color wall calendars and posters based on customer themes.

The products of the Moscow Goznak Printing Factory are always produced at a high printing and artistic level and meet all modern requirements for quality and security.
