Steppe positions for Fri. Guide to the Steppe map in World of Tanks, how to play on the map with different classes of tanks, battle tactics in the Steppes, where to hide artillery pieces, tank destroyers WOT

Square A2 (upper rep)

In my opinion, one of the coolest points in the game. In this area there is a seemingly inaccessible mountain, which is actually quite easy to climb. And on the mountain there is a kind of bucket that completely hides you from light from below. In addition, this point is located at an altitude of approximately 50 meters above ground level, which means you can more easily throw landmines behind the rocks. However, to occupy this point you will need about a minute, so if the enemy has quick light, there is a chance of being caught in the light at the very beginning of the battle. However, having taken a position, you absolutely should not be afraid of artillery hunters, because we are deep in the rear, and among the enemies there are few fools willing to ride along a long climb under fire from the entire team. In addition, many players don’t even know that they can go there. From the ground we can only be illuminated at point-blank range. Personally, I was never featured there at all. There were even such funny cases when the whole team came to capture the base, and I shot them like in a shooting gallery.

I sit high and look far away.

This is roughly how you can see my tank from the mountain. Lighting is technically impossible.

Pros: this point in itself is an absolute plus

Minuses: The humps hiding us make it difficult to shoot at a distance closer than 300 meters, but the problem is solved by running the rear roller over the hump. The position is quite cramped and changing it during the battle is very problematic, so if an enemy artilleryman decides to go fishing and sees your tracer, there is a high chance of being hooked by the fisherman.

Square J2 (lower rep)

Unfortunately, from the lower republic there are no such tasty points as on A2. However, this point is good because it allows you to fire at a distance of 250 meters, while remaining behind the hill relative to the enemy. The only thing to be afraid of is the fireflies that have broken through the center.

That's how we stand. The edges of the hills are outlined in black so that it would be easier for you to understand how they are hiding me. The enemy is in the red zone.

The minimum firing distance is 260 meters, you can get closer if you drive back. However, remember - further from the mountain there is more risk.

Pros: the light will not get to you unnoticed - there will be light in all directions, which means you will have more time to react. In case of light, you can hide downhill from enemy artillery. It's easy to change position.

Minuses: risk of accidental exposure; the mountain may obscure most of the map.

There is such a famous Russian folk song “Steppe and steppe all around.” Starting to sing it, suddenly a feeling of patriotism and love for the homeland awakens in your heart. After all, what beauty can there be in the steppe, and the oak tree is nearby and the girls are beautiful. But in game World of Tanks, in addition to the beautiful view of the map, battles also take place in this place, so this is not the time to admire.

A large open grassy area is what the steppe map is in World of Tanks

With patch 9.6, the map was noticeably redesigned, a lot of leveled surfaces appeared, stones were removed and hills were smoothed out on the territory of both bases. They made the grass along the road and the mountains near the railway crossing flat. The lower descent to the green road has been completely redesigned; now you can go there without fear. The main places of battle on the map are stones and green areas.

On the rocks there are mainly armored vehicles and brilliant green for faster and more maneuverable tanks. You can also highlight the center, but at the beginning of the battle there is practically no fighting here. And so we will write everything in order. Armored vehicles are usually located near the stones, which will allow them to protect themselves from artillery volleys. The main mess happens there, the weaker players are usually a little behind, and only the middle and heavy ones enter the battle. But Lately tanks gather at the lower base, from where they can lure the enemy into a pincer movement.

In random battles, the steppe map in World of Tanks often uses greenery, and this is where the main clashes take place

Shooting usually takes place from the hills; to avoid hits from the artillery, it is best to go down. It will be difficult for slow tanks in this place, since there is practically no protection other than stones, and even then they will be hit. It is best to wait for the opponents at the embankment, from there you can already get a good shot.

Well, the last place for battles is the center. It becomes relevant only towards the end of the fight; under no circumstances should you go there at the beginning of the fight. The only exception is fast tanks; they benefit from the fact that they can hide behind hills and pit enemies against themselves. Due to patch fixes on the road, getting close to opponents has become more difficult.

Protected places are located near your own base. As for art, this map is an ideal place for its positions. There's practically no cover on the greenery. The lower artefact can be near the stones, but the upper one is better at a railway crossing. For light tanks on this map it is easy to act as fireflies; after everyone has taken their positions, you can return to base. It is best to break through to the road, it is best to hide behind a stone and wait for enemies so that the rest of the team can deal with it.

Open flat terrain. The only shelters available are large rocks, folds of terrain, a small amount of vegetation, and a railroad on an embankment to the north. Both bases are connected by a road, hidden in the lowlands from what is happening on the flanks.

The map was added in update 0.6.4. Name in the battle recording file: stepspes.

Tactics in a standard battle

Most of the map is occupied by an open, well-crossed field. A narrow, winding road (nicknamed "gut" by players) runs through the center. Boulders and elevation changes make it possible to get halfway to the enemy base undetected.

In the east there is also a road along the lowland. Tanks moving along this lowland are not visible from the field. Another route runs through rocky terrain in the west (the so-called “stones”).

Light tanks (LT)

On the one hand, the Steppes are an open location and light tanks have room to maneuver. On the other hand, the terrain in the center of the map is as flat as a table, and a light tank, even one moving at full speed, can be knocked out quite easily.

Therefore, light tanks often go through the “guts”, where they often collide with enemy scouts. In such conditions, very often an exchange occurs - the LTs destroy each other without finding anyone. Experienced players more often they go to the flank or hide behind stones in squares E3, E5, E7.

Medium tanks (ST)

Medium tanks usually form a group and walk down an alley together. Usually they are met there by enemy tanks, but if the resistance is weak, a fist of medium tanks is capable of crushing the flank, destroying artillery and going behind enemy lines.

If the enemy has exposed the center, it is possible for the ST to pass through the “gut”. Intercepting enemy light vehicles coming through the gut in the first minute of the battle is also the responsibility of medium tanks.

Heavy tanks (TT)

The standard route for heavy tanks runs through the "rocks". Here they enter into a shootout. The rocks in this area provide good cover from artillery, but tanks are very vulnerable when moving out to fire and when moving from cover to cover.

Anti-tank self-propelled artillery units (tank destroyers)

Tank destroyers traditionally occupy positions at the base among boulders (marked as “def”). From there they shoot through the entire field and the exit from the “gut”. Tank destroyers can also support allies on the flanks.

Self-propelled Artillery Units (SAU)

At the northern base, the artillery moves behind railway. There is not much free space there, but the embankment provides good protection from light and fire from the field. There is much more space at the southern base, but it is not as safe.

A light tank that breaks through the “gut” is guaranteed to detect all the equipment in the central zone, so self-propelled guns are often moved to the flanks. Players especially love the corner around square K10.

Tactics in the "Encounter Battle" mode

The base in the oncoming battle mode is located in a low-lying alley. Compared to standard battle, starting positions teams are assigned to the west. The opponents are close to each other and the battle in the “stones” breaks out very quickly. Often players forget about the base and get involved in a shootout.

In this case, the outcome of the battle can be decided even by a lone light tank standing up for capture. Although the capture time is increased, getting to the base is not so easy: the shortest route is through an open field, where vehicles are an easy target, and detour through the base takes a long time.

In addition, the base is located in a low place and in order to knock down the capture, you need to be in close proximity to it. All this creates a variety of tactics and behavior options in battle.

The Eurasian steppe is located in temperate and subtropical climatic zones, and extends 8 thousand km from Hungary in the west through Ukraine, Russia and Central Russia to Manchuria in the east. The steppe zone of Russia is a flat area covered with grassy vegetation and practically devoid of trees, with the exception of river banks. Shrubs and many types of grasses grow well on steppe soils.

Eurasian steppe on the map of Eurasia/Wikipedia

As the climate from west to east of the country becomes sharply continental, the composition of flora and fauna changes. The steppes of Russia have very fertile lands, so much of the area has been converted to agricultural land. Human activity has led to the destruction of vast areas of virgin steppe, as well as a reduction in the number of unique species of plants and animals.

Geographical location and types of steppes in Russia

Steppe zone on the map of Russia

The Russian steppe zone extends from the Black Sea to Altai in the south of the country. The visual northern border is Tula, the Kama and Belaya rivers. In the south, the steppes reach the Caucasus Mountains. Part of the zone lies on, the other is located on West Siberian. When moving from south to east, steppe landscapes are found in the basins of Transbaikalia. The steppe zone borders on the forest-steppe in the north and also in the south. Natural conditions on the steppe are not the same. Hence the difference in composition flora. In Russia there are 4 following types of steppes:

  • Mountain: The steppe lands of the Caucasus are covered with numerous types of grasses, with the exception of sedges.
  • Meadow: occupy most of European Russia and Western Siberia. Forbs and cereals grow in this landscape area. The thick green carpet is enlivened by bright flower stalks.
  • Feather grass: The steppes of the Orenburg region are covered with varieties of feather grass.
  • Desert: tumbleweed, twig grass and feather grass are found on the lands of Kalmykia. Vegetation cover territory has been significantly damaged by human activity.

Steppe climate

From south to east, the climate of the Russian steppe changes from moderate continental to sharply continental. The average winter temperature on the East European Plain is -5°C. At the borders of the Western European Plain, these indicators drop to -30°C. Winters have little snow and winds often blow.

Spring comes abruptly, advancing, thanks to air masses, from the south and southwest. At the end of March the thermometer rises to 0°C. The snow is melting quickly, and there is practically no new precipitation.

The temperature in summer is +25°C, most days are clear and sunny. Precipitation occurs precisely during the warm season, with at least 400 mm. The steppes are characterized by aridity. Dry winds dry out the soil, lead to erosion, and form ravines. A sharp drop in daily temperatures of 15°C makes steppes similar to deserts. The steppe autumn is long, there is practically no wind, and until November the average temperature is about 0°C.

The steppes in southern Russia are softer due to southern winds. The wind from the south brings humid air, which softens winters and reduces the summer heat. In winter, cyclones often occur in the southern regions, and in summer, fogs form in river valleys.

The steppes in the west have a more severe climate; in winter, at a temperature of -50°C, the soil freezes to 100 cm. Little snow falls, and there are almost never thaws. The snow cover melts in mid-April. Summer, lasting three months, begins in May. The first frosts occur in October, and winter begins a month later.

Flora and fauna

The main cover of the steppe consists of cereal crops, growing in bunches, between which the earth is visible. Herbs tolerate heat and drought well. Some of them roll up their leaves to avoid evaporation. Feather grass is found more often than other plants. Its size depends on the region of growth. No less widespread in the steppe is the Tonkonog genus of cereals. The spike-shaped panicles of perennials are food for animals.

Most plants have dark colored foliage, which protects against excess moisture evaporation. Dwarf iris, meadow sage, Kermek, astragalus, meadowsweet, swordweed, and wormwood grow in the steppes. Honey plants are of great importance: sweet clover, alfalfa, buckwheat, phacelia, motherwort and sunflower.

The fauna of the Russian steppe zone cannot be called diverse. Large animals have nowhere to hide, so small animals can be found here: gophers, marmots, hamsters, jerboas and hedgehogs. The steppe fox feeds. Small animals serve as food for wolves, wild cats and ferrets. Common birds of prey include owls, hawks, harriers and buzzards. In addition to them, the steppes are inhabited by ducks, bustards, cranes and herons. In the steppe zone you can find amphibians and reptiles: frogs, toads, lizards and snakes. Steppe antelopes, saigas, live in herds, and have adapted for a long time do without water.

Soils

Chernozem was formed under the influence of high temperatures and low humidity. It is characterized by high fertility. IN upper layers humus is actively formed. Its horizon in the Kuban region reaches 100 cm. To the south, due to drought, saline and saline soils are often found. In many areas, erosion is actively occurring on the surface. Under drought conditions, leaching of calcium, magnesium and sodium from the top layer can be observed. Chernozem contains billions of useful minerals. The plowed lands of the steppes provide 80% of all agricultural production in Russia.

Economic activity

The first settlers of the steppes were engaged in cattle breeding. Then people began to actively plow the lands and sow them. Today, corn, wheat, sunflowers and rice are grown in these areas. The abundance of light and warmth allows you to grow melons, melons and watermelons. In the south, part of the land is allocated for vineyards.

Grass cover is an excellent food source for livestock. In the steppe zone they breed poultry, sheep, pigs and cows. IN major cities factories are working. The terrain makes it possible to build long highways. The steppes are densely populated big cities adjacent to sparsely populated villages.

Environmental problems of the Russian steppes

Human activity, water and wind erosion lead to desertification of the steppes. The land becomes unsuitable for growing crops, and soil fertility decreases. Due to the reduction of vegetation, animal populations are declining. In the struggle for the harvest, people use fertilizers that pollute fragile crops. Artificial irrigation leads to soil salinization.

To preserve the unique steppe, it is necessary to strengthen measures to protect rare plants and animals and create new protected areas. In protected areas, vulnerable species will be able to recover faster. The steppes of Russia can still be preserved, but this requires joint efforts of the state and civil society.

In the game World of Tanks there is great amount interesting tactics that tankers are happy to use when playing on different game cards. However, with the use of new versions of the game, the developers, in addition to standard battles, introduced new modes such as “Encounter Battle” and “Assault”. After this, the tactics of the game on all maps changed significantly. Today we will look at the “Steppe” map at standard mode battle. The map size is 1000 by 1000 meters, and the battle level is from 4 to 11.

If we look at the view of the Steppes, we can see an open plain, well covered by all tanks and artillery self-propelled guns, but this is a completely wrong opinion. Experts have been refining the area for a long time to improve comfortable conditions for playing. Potholes, mounds and a lot of stones have appeared on the map, which can protect your tank from the next enemy shot. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves, but consider the tactics in more detail.

Approximate travel routes for all types of equipment.

Yellow dots are light points.
Red dots are art.
Green areas are PT/TT locations.
Red areas are the main battle areas.
Green arrows - directions of exposure/shooting.
Yellow arrows are directions of ST attack.
Blue arrows- TT attack directions.

Bottom base:

The first place of battle is a ravine. It is located on the right on lines 8, 9 and 0 of the map. A rather narrow direction that can cover the tank with dense bushes or mountain slopes. Usually this direction is held back or covered by medium tanks, which can easily go behind enemy lines by going around the ravine from above. Some play through a tower and deal damage to opponents through mounds and rocks. Others play with the help of the sides, hiding the tank itself behind the embankment of the slope. By playing in this direction, you will be able to avoid direct hits from artillery shells, receive numerous ricochets and no penetration. Likewise, heavy tanks can perform well on this flank, attacking the enemy and defending themselves with strong armor.

The second place of battle is stones. Stones located on the first, second and third lines of the map are usually used to fight heavy tanks and tank destroyers . On AT, you can deal good damage to illuminated enemies, but there is a risk of standing under direct artillery fire, which makes you vulnerable. Therefore, most often such equipment remains to guard the base, standing next to the stones. Heavy tanks can hide behind a pile of stones, waiting for the gun to reload, and then deal damage to the enemy again by playing with the turret, sides or bypassing enemies to the rear. Medium tanks can be good helpers on this flank, but only if they defend the ravine! They can drive into the enemy’s sides, give a sufficient amount of damage, thereby helping to break through the direction and win the battle. But such a maneuver is quite dangerous.

Review of video tactics of the Steppe map World of Tanks

The third direction is the Center. The center is the work of light tanks. Possessing a low silhouette, low visibility and high speed, such a technique can easily illuminate the enemy, determining how much equipment is moving in a particular direction. However, we do not recommend driving along the direct road that connects both bases, since it is usually guarded by tank destroyers or medium tanks that decide to stay at the base to protect the artillery. Dense vegetation and huge rocks can hide your light tank, preventing you from taking damage from enemies. Taking advantage of the fact that all the enemies are distracted by your allies, you can drive directly to the enemy base and destroy all the artillery, which can decide the outcome of the battle. By killing self-propelled guns, you will not only help your enemies, but you will also be able to claim victory in this battle. As you can see, the light tank is an integral, albeit small, part of the team.

When playing artillery, find the bushes in the lower corners of the map and stand in them. This will prevent a light tank from quickly flashing you. Move forward or backward so that the enemy self-propelled gun does not see your tracer and, after the gun is reloaded, does not kill you.

Upper base:

The tactics of the upper and lower bases are absolutely similar, but the directions are different. While on top of the base, the rocks will be to your right, which was completely different at the bottom base, and the ravine will be to your left. Accordingly you should use old tactics, which is used on this map: if you are playing on a heavy tank, then you must go to the right, towards the stones. If you are playing on a medium tank, then go down into the ravine and fight enemy tanks. But, if you drove out in a light tank, shine the field, and at the right moment break through to the enemy artillery.
When playing on this map with an artillery self-propelled gun, hide behind the railroad. This elevation serves as an excellent protector from fireflies. Also change your position every time after a shot to avoid death.
