The player no longer has to reveal the cards himself; his only task in the game Eight Free Cells Solitaire is to be able to lay them out correctly. Even its re-publication in 1896 did not help its revival. Eight Sphinxes Solitaire became noticeably widespread and, like any popular game, by the end of the 19th century it was transformed (options “b”, “c”, “d”). It is still found today mainly in the “c” variant.
A. Eight sphinxes
To play, you need two full decks of 52 cards - a total of 104 sheets. Eight cards are laid out on the table face down in accordance with the picture. These cards are game cards. The remaining space between them is reserved for aces.
Eight aces are placed in the base rows. They collect cards in ascending suit (from deuce to king) order.
Game cards are transferred to the base ones. If the card is moved, then the next card of the deck is laid out in the vacated space. The playing cards are collected in descending order without observing the suits. The cards collected for the game only partially cover each other, so that the suit and value of the cards below can be determined. Only the top cards are playable. It is possible to transfer cards from one game to another. In this case, you can transfer several cards lying on top of each other at once.
After all the transfers are completed, the deck is turned over. Cards are collected into base ones.
If, as a result of the game, any space from the originally laid out eight cards is freed up, it can be restored by using a card from the deck or by transferring cards from the collected ones to the playing ones.
The solitaire game is successful if, as a result of the layout, it was possible to collect all the cards into base ones.
- In the “Well” variant, cards are collected into a suit.
- In the “Recruit Set” option, the basic ones are eight queens. Two turns of the deck are allowed.
Solitaire is different in that the basic ones are four aces and four kings of different suits.
For gaming cards, you can collect cards in any order - ascending or descending, but be sure to this map in one - either ascending or descending.

B. Eight Sages
Solitaire differs from option “a” in that the cards are laid out in a row.

- “Brunette and Blonde” solitaire is played with alternating both game and base red suits with black ones.
The most difficult option is that you cannot place cards on the playing cards at all. After laying out the first eight cards, they are transferred to the base row and the vacancies are replaced with cards from the deck. The deck is turned over once.
- Kingdom Solitaire is played by collecting cards for basic aces, regardless of suit.
- Horizon Solitaire is played by collecting the basic kings in descending order without distinguishing the suit.
In this version, the scoreboard looks like the letter “A”, and the basic ones - jacks - are laid out in the form of the letter “H” (sometimes - N).
For the basic ones, cards are collected into suits in ascending order, for game cards - into suits in descending order. The spaces vacated as a result of the transfer of playing cards are replenished from the deck.
The deck does not turn over.
Ladies don't shift. When the solitaire game is successful, they remain in the place of the playing cards.
- In the “Alexander and Nikolai” variant, the basic ones are aces. The deck is turned over once.
