Board game Dixit. Board game Dixit - board and educational games - for children - reviews - review from the guru Dixit board game

Sometimes, in the midst of a lively conversation, you, accidentally looking at some little thing, begin to remember events from your life and gradually plunge into thought under the perplexed glances of your surrounding friends. It’s all because of associations that depend on imagination and fantasy... Today on the Pink Sofa is the psychological-associative series of board games Dixit.

Dixit - card psychological game, developing fantasy and associative thinking. Since it is quite difficult to come up with different associations for the same pictures, the Libellud company has released a whole series playing cards, which can be combined into a single set and used during the game.

There is only one wish: for a full-fledged game, you must have either the version of Dixit 1 or Dixit Odyssey. You can add cards from Dixit 2 and Dixit 3 to them, or combine all four sets together.

So what is Dixit?

In 2008, Jean-Louis Roubira presented the world with an original game based on associations with the images of the French artist Marie Cardouat. Elementary rules, deep psychological meaning and spectacular pictures have earned the game well-deserved popularity. The success of the first Dixit contributed to the fact that at this point in time, 2 card additions and one full-fledged version of the game have been released for the game.

Dixit 1, 2.

Thirst fantastic adventures has always attracted dreamers on the road: after reading another fascinating book overnight, they turn their gaze to the rising sun and imagine themselves flying over stormy waves to uncharted lands, towards a beautiful and amazing world...

The inside of the box looks no less impressive than the outside: the organizer is made in the form of a playing field with a score track, in the center of which there is a square container for cards, tokens and player chips. The rules of the game will be needed literally once - there are no difficulties in the gameplay, you will only need to remember the number of points awarded to the players.

The cardboard container is removed from the base and allows you to comfortably place a deck of 84 cards measuring 79x120 mm on the table. I would also like to note the high-quality printing and artistic design of the cards - you can look at them for a long time and get a lot out of it positive emotions.

Up to 6 people can take part in the game, each will receive a set of 6 thick cardboard tokens of their own color and one wooden rabbit chip. The rabbit, by the way, has an original feature - its ears very often outweigh the figure: turning around and standing on its head, the furry animal becomes like... a beaver.

Let's dream...

All cards are thoroughly mixed and placed in a single stack in the center of the box. Each player chooses a color and takes a number of tokens equal to the number of players. For example: when playing with four players, you need to take cards with numbers 1-4. Then each participant receives 6 cards, which they carefully study.

On the table, place the lower part of the box with cards and the rabbit chips at the “zero” mark of the track - the colorful animals will jump over the pebbles towards victory.

Everything is ready, you can start!

On his turn, the presenter chooses one card from his hand, comes up with an association for it and places it face down in front of him. For example: a cute girl, the owner of the pink rabbit chip, bats her eyelashes, says: “Neighbors,” and timidly lays out her card. Then the remaining players select one card from their hand, which, in their opinion, fits the association voiced by the leader, and also lay them face down next to the leader’s card.

The presenter collects the players' cards, shuffles them and puts them back face up. Now the fun begins: you need to guess which of the pictures was guessed by the presenter and vote for it.

To do this, all players (except the leader) place one token in front of them, number down - the number on the cardboard will indicate the intended card. Then, on command, everyone is revealed, and the tokens are distributed according to their numbers.

Scoring is simple: if everyone has correctly or incorrectly guessed the leader's card, then all players receive 2 points, and the leader receives nothing. If at least one player did not vote for the leader’s card, and the rest guessed it, then all those who voted correctly and the leader receive 3 points. Additionally, each player receives 1 point for each vote cast for his card.

For example: the owner of a pink rabbit loves her neighbors - musicians, so she chose a card with an orchestra of angels, for which no one voted. Unfortunately, no one shares such feelings for the residents of their entrance, and other players associate their neighbors not with angelic creatures.

However, everyone (except the presenter) receives 2 points - a complete injustice! The remaining votes were distributed over the players' cards, for which their owners receive 1 more point. Yes, apparently, everyone has a different attitude towards their neighbors...

The rabbits rush forward along the path, leaving their cute pink brother alone - this is the result of the “rose-colored glasses” through which his owner looks at the world...

After the end of the round, players draw one card into their hand, and the lead passes to the next player. This continues until one of the rabbits reaches the pebble with the number 30, becoming the winner of this association race. The game also ends when the cards in the common deck run out. In this case, the one who ran farthest along the score track wins - he cheerfully gnaws on cabbage and looks at those lagging behind with a sense of rabbit pride.

I’ll tell you about my feelings from the game at the end of the review when summing up the results. Here I will just note that the game is not similar to any of the board games.

Dixit 2.

Unfortunately, I did not keep the boxes from the Dixit 2 add-on cards, since I bought the add-on immediately along with the first part and store the cards in the box of the main game.

The Dixit 2 expansion pack includes 84 cards, designed by the same artist Marie Cardouat. Personally, I got the feeling that all 168 cards (Dixit 1 and Dixit 2) were prepared initially, divided in half and sold in two separate releases - they are so suitable in theme to each other. Therefore, if you liked the idea of Dixit, then add the first and second parts of this game to your collection at the same time. There is no point in separating these issues, since they are a single whole in spirit and style.

Dixit 3.

Quite a lot of time has passed since the release of the first and second parts of Dixit, and the publishing house decided to supplement the set of cards with new pictures, which, in my opinion, very harmoniously complement the first two sets.

The compact box contains 84 new cards with beautiful illustrations by artist Xavier Collette, which will provide players with a lot of pleasant moments. The style in which the drawings are made is completely consistent with the spirit of the first two parts of the game, so feel free to mix cards and sit down with your friends at the gaming table.

New associations, new “cartoon” pictures - I would call the third version of Dixit the most “childish” of all.

Take note: You can easily play the game with one additional set of Dixit 2 and Dixit 3 cards, without having the first part (or Odyssey) in your collection. To do this, you will need to make sets of voting tokens and have a notepad on hand in which you will record the number of victory points scored by the players. Of course, a beautiful playing field creates a certain atmosphere at the gaming table, but on the road you can sacrifice this gaming accessory for the sake of compactness and mobility.

Dixit Odyssey.

Dixit's fame grew, and so did the number of people willing to play this unique and fashion game. Following the wishes and taking into account the popularity of the game at various entertainment events, the publishing house Libellud released " new version old game", which made it possible to attract up to 12 people to the gaming table! The style also changed, adding an industrial and technical component.

Gone is the playing field, replaced by a practical plastic organizer that holds about 260 cards without protectors - you can place Dixit 2 and Dixit 3 expansion cards here. The remaining compartments are given over to wooden hare chips, plastic markers and cardboard voting fields. On top is a victory point track and game rules, which have undergone some minor changes compared to the first version of Dixit.

Instead of a green lawn, there is a rectangle with divisions and mysterious pipes, with numbered sections on the sides for placing cards (so that there are no disagreements during voting).

Tokens are a thing of the past, replaced by 12 pads with holes for 24 plastic markers (12 red and 12 green). The number of numbers corresponds to the maximum number of players who can take part in the vote.

Each participant will receive an individual platform with a picture and one marker. The cards are made of thick cardboard, and the holes allow you to tightly fix the pin in the selected position.

The color of the card matches the color of one of the 12 hares, which, as in the first part, will jump along the track of victory points.

The figures from the Odyssey have become stable and decreased in size - the hares are more “athletic” and swift than their rabbit brothers, who have grown fat on the green meadow.

The set includes 84 cards with new, more “serious” illustrations that differ in style from all other Dixits. If Dixit 3 can be described as the “most childish” version of the cards, then Odyssey, on the contrary, seemed to me “the most adult” and quite serious in meaning.

If the game involves up to 6 players, then the rules remain unchanged: plastic chips are used instead of cardboard voting tokens, cards are placed in a row and the scoring method remains the same.

If the company is large enough, the players take any 2 chips and voting takes place with the following changes: the cards are placed opposite the allocated places along the edges of the playing field. When voting, a player can (optional) use a second marker and point to another card, thereby increasing his chances.

In addition to the standard award of bonus points, the player receives 1 additional point if he voted for only one card, and this card was guessed by the presenter.

Dixit Odyssey allows you to play two more variants of the game: “team” and “party”. Read more about them in the rules - I probably already tired you with my long story.

Back from the fantasy world.

An original, beautiful and very deep game from a psychological point of view. Through associations, a person can tell others about his inner world, mood and secret thoughts that he would never tell a stranger about. If you carefully follow your opponents, you will learn a lot about them - after all, very often players ask the presenter to explain what thoughts guided him when choosing a card and the association to it.

Dixit is a kind of game that requires the appropriate mood of the whole company and a certain attitude. Otherwise, your idea to play “psychologists” will most likely end in failure. The game has proven itself to be a great success at various entertainment events - I often bring a box with a Dixit kit to birthdays and various get-togethers, and the game is a constant success.

If you want to expand your collection, I recommend starting with the first version or expansions (Dixit 2 or Dixit 3). Any child will come up with associations for the cards from these issues, and the themes of the images will put you in a positive mood.

The pictures in the Dixit Odyssey version (in the photograph) are “serious”, and the meaning hidden in them by the artist will most likely be understandable only to a person wise with life experience. This, in my opinion, is not an entertaining, but an educational version of the series, which makes it interesting for adult players.

In conclusion, I want to say that my youngest daughter loves Dixit dearly - she very often asks to play association games for 10-15 minutes before bed and she herself brings the box from the shelf. The undoubted “advantage” of Dixit is that the game does not require any preparation, the rules are explained in two minutes and will allow you to seat people who are completely far from board games at the table. By the way, Dixit - fun game. Try it yourself...

Weight: 780 gr. Compound:

Playing field
84 cards
36 tokens of different colors, numbered 1 to 6
6 wooden rabbit figures

An amazingly beautiful board game, a real “monster” of the gaming industry, which has won the hearts of many fans around the world. Simple rules, stunning design - Dixit can rightfully be called a masterpiece tabletop world, who will be happy to play you... :)

The annual award for Game of the Year in Germany (Spiel des Jahres) is without a doubt the most significant award in the world of board games. Historically, Germany is the number 1 country in this segment of the gaming industry.

The prize has been awarded since 1978 by a jury of German board game critics who review games released in Germany in the previous 12 months

The main objectives of the award are to popularize games and increase their cultural value in society. And they're good at it: just a Spiel des Jahres nomination can boost a game's sales from the typical 500-3,000-copy level to around 10,000, while the winner can push sales up to 500,000.

The purpose of the award is to recommend good games for family and friends. Applicant games must be commercially produced in Austria and must have been published in German in the previous 12 months. Any person can nominate games, then a jury of five people selects one game for the main Spiel der Spiele award, and then about twelve (can choose fewer, maybe more) games for "Spiele-Hits" ("Best in class") in six categories: Best game for playing with friends, the best game for children, as well as for families, for two players, for a large number of players (companies), for experts (advanced board players). The peculiarity of Spiele Hits is that if there is no worthy candidate in the category, then the award is not awarded. Since 2007, no prize has been awarded in the “Game for Two” category. And vice versa, if there are several worthy applicants, then they can receive this award together. So in the “For the Family” nomination in 2010 there were as many as 5 laureates (one of them was Dixit).

Only new board games always participate in the competition, of which 16 are selected, and the jury nominates them in 4 categories: “best children's game”, “best family game", "best game for adults" and "best puzzle".

Dixit: a little more about the game

Did you know that rhinoceros ears are similar to alpine meadows? And an elephant that walks is almost the same as a straw hat after the rain? Have we lost our minds? Or did the gray mouse brush away the egg? Or maybe this is American beauty? No? Well then, these are the androids landing...

Board game Dixit breaks stereotypes because it is an association game. You will finally find out how abnormal your friends are in your understanding (if you did not manage to understand this during numerous battles in Codenames). And you will be surprised, and at the same time you will be convinced that people sometimes rave in the same way.

The rules of the game Dixit are incredibly simple. So simple that it is unclear why this game was not invented several hundred years ago.

Each player has at his disposal one and only... I would like to say that this is a meeple, but in fact it is... a rabbit meeple or something - a meeple in the form of a rabbit. Do you feel the breeze of madness blowing? And we have to endure more than one hurricane.

Rabbits jump along the score counter built into the box. Well, besides all this little disgrace, the box contains only one single deck of high-quality, full-color, large-format cards.

What is shown in the pictures is a separate topic for discussion. Imagine that Salvador Dali and Antoine de Saint-Exupéry got together and decided: “Let’s make a deck of cards for a 21st century game.” Yes, not just a joke, but “I,..., right now I’ll draw something like this for them...” That’s something like that.

In general, each player receives several of these “pictures”. One of the players is declared the Storyteller and away we go. The Storyteller's task is to describe one of his pictures in any way available to him: in one word, a sentence, a title or character from a movie, a short story, or even just a facial expression or gesture. After that, he places this picture face down on the table.

All other participants, nervously giggling and making fun of each other, find among their pictures those that, in their opinion, most closely correspond to the Storyteller’s description. After which the pictures are mixed and opened.

Now the task of all players is to calculate the picture that the Storyteller posted. Each player has vote tokens that are placed face down and then revealed. Whoever guessed right jumps forward, whoever missed smokes nervously on the sidelines. The last one - only if you have NOT guessed everything!

This is where the gusto is - the original task of the Storyteller is to describe the picture in such a way as to give some opponents a hint, an opportunity to guess, and to confuse the rest with the original style of his unique thinking. Only in this situation will the Storyteller's crawl move forward. If everyone guesses the picture or the opposite situation, the rabbits of the opponents will happily wander forward, not the Storyteller!

And a very small subtlety - if you skillfully selected a competing picture to the Storyteller’s picture, then you get an extra point for each vote for your picture. You are well done. You are a schemer. Confused such intelligent people :)

There are two phases of the game of Dixit that take away the ground under our feet.

The first is when the vote tokens are revealed. Perhaps you will remember for a long time how your wife or friend, with whom you speak the same language, found the “silicon valley at noon hour” you described in a picture where there was nothing but some kind of alien substance... Where logics? And does it exist? “How strange are all these people whom I have known for many years? What kind of mess is in their head? Some will think so. Or maybe many. And in the same way they will be surprised how it is possible to guess something from an almost stranger!

We experience a second shock when we find out where the Storyteller’s picture was when we weren’t him. In fact, our brain often refuses to believe it, but the voices of those who guessed indicate that either the Narrator is not crazy, or there are more psychos in your company than you just thought.

Good afternoon.

Imaginarium-Dixit-Imaginarium-Dixit are essentially the same thing for a person who has not encountered their stories. But if you go through a bunch of games, a bunch of games with people of completely different values, perceptions, ages, you understand that the differences are still big, and not even in the rules, but in the cards themselves, or rather, in their elaboration.
1) For a person involved in any kind of art, the “walking style” will immediately catch the eye: in Dixit there is one author, and in the Imaginarium there are completely different authors (both in subject matter, technique, and in the quality of the drawing). This wandering style is partly what hurts the eyes. And even some ordinary people didn’t particularly like it. And if Dixieit after the game brought not only some kind of emotional influx, but also aesthetic pleasure, then in the Imaginarium it is no longer the same. And after purchasing, I immediately want to put 1/5 of the cards aside. In contrast to Dixit, there is no such desire: all the cards are one whole.
2) "Coils for imagination." There are rumors about Dixit 1, 2 (unfortunately I didn’t appreciate Odyssey) that psychologists partly worked on the cards. I don’t know if it’s true or not, but even before that I noticed that in these parts of the maps there are a lot of details that are precisely “turns of development for imagination.” The average person will draw more associations from one card, but the dreamer will with great pleasure build many different semantic and interesting associations that will greatly diversify the game and will be enough for many games. Such details can also be called “activators”: you don’t just look for visual synonyms in your head, but you come up with something and develop an already proposed image. But in Dixit 3, 4 this is no longer the case. In the 3rd Dixit there were mostly straight pictures, in the 4th the artist was changed again (and for the better) and the drawings became much more complex with many colorful abstractions, but unfortunately still did not acquire these “rounds of development”. And so an analogue of the same problem: “Imaginarium”.
3) "Repeating elements". In the first parts of Dixit there are a lot of interconnected elements. Perhaps the artist has an endless imagination and she simply brought the forum to create a lot of creative pictures, but here it played into her hands. When laying out cards, it often happened that many cards fit into one association at once, and people began to analyze the “leader” and his style of riddles and values, or still cling to some details, or simply bet on theirs with a satisfied expression. map... And here we have another ethical activation, which served as an excellent development for different behavior patterns among people. And the result: diversity gameplay, a lot of emotions, conversations, etc. In Dixit 3.4 + Imaginarium there is still less of this.
4) "Theme". Still here more games represents any taste preferences formed in a person over the years and in a certain environment. BUT Dixit’s cards are “not for children”, they are universal. It’s easier to put an adult who has been painting pictures all his life (and will get a lot of pleasure not only from the game, but also from the colorful pictures themselves), but it’s just as easy to put some 40-year-old builder who has never encountered with “dreamers” and he will also have fun coming up with associations. After all, everyone will find something of their own in them, they play very well on images that everyone knows, regardless of what is written above about tastes. “Imaginarium” is more like a kind of “breath of time”; the cards partly show the values of the modern generation (and anti-values), and unfortunately not everyone is close to them.

Thank you for your attention!

What is Dixit?

Kingdom of Dixit - unique surreal and metaphorical illustrations with multifaceted associations, high-quality design, simple rules. The game will bring a lot of pleasure, fun and new emotions, will help you get to know a friend or family member better, and have an unusual time.

Goal in the game

Of course, identify the card that was hidden by the storyteller among the cards of the other players. A participant in the Dixit game needs to earn as many points as possible to qualify as a winner. To do this, you need to correctly guess the hidden associations and come up with your own on one of the cards in your hand, so that at least one player makes the wrong choice.

Original pictures

The board game “Dixit” is captivating because all the cards in the set are unique and drawn by a French artist Marie Cardois. The illustrations are filled with meaning - freedom for imagination and fantasy. Each new set of cards is filled with fresh ideas.

How to play in association?

This is an entertaining process that you can’t tear yourself away from. The most difficult thing is for the storyteller, whose task is to come up with an association that is not vague and so obvious. And then everything depends on the other participants in the game “Dixit”, their imagination and imagination. So that life does not seem like honey to the Presenter, he will not receive points for a primitive and too deep association, unless, of course, one of the players chooses his illustration in a vote.

Scoring

Throughout the game, each player earns points at the time of telling or guessing.

  • when participants correctly pointed to the Presenter's illustration, they earn 2 points, and the narrator receives nothing;
  • if, on the contrary, no one solved the storyteller's card in Dixit, then everyone will receive 2 points, and the storyteller's rabbit will not move anywhere;
  • in other cases, both the narrator and the players who guessed the image will receive 3 points;
  • if the player managed to confuse the opponent when he chose his card instead of the correct one, then he will receive an additional point for each pointer.

Who will like it

  • Dixit is ideal for a family holiday;
  • children and adults to develop creative and communication skills;
  • for fun get-togethers with friends and parties;
  • as a gift for creative people, they are the ones who will appreciate the ambiguous meaning of the illustrations;
  • for tabletop collectors for whom quality of design is most important.

Rules of the game

The main rule that should not be neglected: you cannot show illustrations by hand to anyone! This will not decorate the game, and guessing will not be interesting. Then what's the point? Use only logic and imagination, and everything will work out!

It is also important that the association is not obvious and not close only to the narrator. If the Leader’s card is not guessed or, on the contrary, everyone chooses it, he will not earn points; this is not in his interests.

You should not say where his card is, so as not to spoil the outcome of the game.

In Dixit, the rules of the game include another version of the game, where the narrator will sing a song or depict a piece of music related to the image on the card, and also demonstrate pantomime skills to hint at the card.

The more participants, the more interesting the game and the more points the opponents and the Leader will earn.

After each turn, players take turns drawing one card into their hand, after which the next storyteller is appointed. This continues until the deck with illustrations is empty.

Beginning of the game

Participants distribute rabbits among themselves - chips that move during the game, and place them on cell “0”. Next, one of the Dixit players carefully shuffles the deck with illustrations and deals 6 cards to everyone. The remaining cards are stacked closed.

  • If there are 4 people playing in a game, then each person takes 4 tokens with numbers from 1 to 4;
  • If 5 people participate, then each takes 5 tokens with numbers from 1 to 5;
  • If there are 6 players, then each takes 6 tokens from 1 to 6.

Progress of the game

Narrator

On each new turn, a participant in the game “Dixit” is appointed as the Leader (storyteller) in turn. From the 6 cards in his hands, he selects one, after which he comes up with a suitable association and pronounces it out loud. This can be a word, a phrase or even a sound.

The first Leader should be selected as follows: the player who was the first to make an association on one of the cards speaks about it out loud, and the countdown will begin from him.

You'll like: Consideration

Choosing a Storyteller Card

After the others have heard the Leader’s association, they look for a suitable picture among the cards in their hands. Players give the chosen card to the storyteller so that no one can see the contents on the back. The presenter carefully shuffles the illustrations along with his card, then places them face up in front of the participants in a random order. Numbering usually starts from left to right.

Search for a story card: voting

The most interesting stage in the game is determining which card belongs to the Leader. Participants secretly vote for a card that matches the narrator's association. They place their color token face down in front of them. After everyone except the Leader has made their choice, the tokens are turned over and placed on the illustration of the corresponding number. Of course, in Dixit you can’t vote for your card, and the GM doesn’t vote at all.

End of turn

Players draw up to 6 cards with images from the deck into their hands. The participant who sits to the left of the previous one is appointed as the narrator.

Scoring

The number of points that the Presenter will receive for the hidden illustration depends on the narrator’s imagination. The association in the game "Dixit" should not be too obvious and especially personal, then his rabbit is unlikely to be able to move around playing field, earning victory points.

  • If all participants guessed the image of the storyteller or none of them guessed, the Presenter will not be awarded any points, while the rest will receive 2 points.
  • In other scenarios, the Leader and the players who guessed his card are awarded 3 points.
  • All players, with the exception of the storyteller, earn 1 point for each participant who places their token to vote for their illustration.

End of the game

The end of a game of Dixit is when the last card is drawn from the pile. The winner of the game is the participant whose rabbit has moved the furthest across the playing field, which serves as a point indicator.

A three-player game has slightly different rules.

If, with a standard modification, the players are dealt 6 illustrations, then playing with three players, they receive 7 cards in their hands. When the time comes to hand over to the storyteller in Dixit so that he can mix them together with his own, the players deal not 1 card, but 2. When counting points, when only 1 participant guessed the image of the Leader, then both he and the storyteller earn 4 points instead 3.

Brief description of the game Dixit:

What is the game "Dixit / Dixit"? These are just a couple of hundred cards, they depict, various kinds, illustrations and drawings. The pictures are so abstract that Picasso himself would envy the artists’ imagination. And you look at them and you don’t understand what is drawn here, how it is connected to each other and what the author wanted to say with this. But, oddly enough, this is the whole point of the game Dixit: Come up with your own association for the selected picture.

But this is of course a superficial description of the game. That is, when they ask me: “What kind of game is Dixit?” I answer: “Yes, this is a game of association.” And everything seemed to be explained. But let’s delve a little deeper into the gameplay of the game, since this is not just a “Crocodile” or “Alias” game, everything is much more interesting.

To begin with, the dry rules of the game “Dixit / Dixit”:

  1. Each player is dealt 6 cards. He looks at them and studies them, and doesn’t show them to anyone else.
  2. Each player takes turns (let's say clockwise).
  3. On his turn, the player chooses a card from his hand and comes up with an association (absolutely any) for it.
  4. The player places the selected card face down on the table and pronounces (if these are words) his association. Remember, you can explain the association in any way you like, even with words or pantomime, but you can remain silent and do nothing.
  5. The remaining players rummage through their fan of cards and choose one that best suits the leading player’s association. And then they are laid out face down on the table.
  6. All cards laid out on the table are shuffled and laid out one after another with the pictures facing up.
  7. All players except the leader must guess his card out of all of them based on his association.

And now what it actually looks like:

The leading player, when choosing a card and its association, must take into account several factors. Firstly, who he plays with, what knowledge surrounds his opponents. Secondly, have a rough idea of what cards your neighbors might have in their hands. Thirdly, you yourself have good knowledge and imagination.

How does this show up in the game? It's simple. Ideally, the leading player should choose a card and, most importantly, an association to it so that everyone guesses, except one. Difficult? In the first few hands, yes. And then understanding comes unexpectedly and the game begins to be much more interesting.

All in your hands. Everything is in your imagination.
