Description of the domino set

"-Mimino, enters the casino,

He wants a popsicle!

But there is wine, cinema and DOMINO"

This article is about the board game DOMINO.

It is difficult to say how popular it is now, but earlier only playing cards could compete with it in popularity. They played everywhere: at home, at work, at school, in the yards, etc. Everyone played, regardless of gender and age. If only there were bones.

Dominoes is a game during which a chain of bones (“bones”, “stones”) is built, touching halves with the same number of points.

Description of the domino set

Dominoes originated from the well-known dice. A standard set of dominoes includes 28 tiles. A domino is a rectangular tile. Its front side is divided by a line into two square parts. Each part contains from zero to six dots. In specialized sets of dominoes, the possible number of dots can reach up to nine, twelve, fifteen or eighteen.

The number of bones in dominoes is equal to the number of combinations with repetitions of 2 from a set of 7 numbers (0, 1, 2,..., 6) and is calculated by the formula: (n+1)×(n+2)/2, where n - the maximum number of points. For example, the "standard" set already described above includes (6+1)×(6+2)/2 = 28 bones.

There are other sets of dominoes. So, in a Chinese domino there are 32 bones, and there are no parts without dots in the set, but at the same time there are several pairs of duplicate bones.

The reverse side of the knuckle is usually flat. Dominoes are made of bone (plain or ivory), plastic, metal or wood. Sometimes a deck of cards is used as dominoes. In addition to the traditional domino, there are many other varieties of this game.

History of dominoes

The roots of the game of dominoes go back to India and China, it was there that bones in the form of plates appeared. The dots on the bones in the Chinese domino are multi-colored (white and red), there are no pacifiers in the set. In the 18th century, the game was brought to Italy and modified. Modern dominoes are also closely related to the game of dice. The two halves of a domino are one of the possible combinations that come up when two dice are rolled. It is believed that the domino was named after the black and white masquerade costumes, which, in turn, originated from the attire of the Dominican monks, who wore white cloaks with black hoods.

Rules of the game

Played by two to four people. For two, seven dominoes are dealt, for three or four - five. The rest are placed in a closed reserve (“bazaar”). The player who has a “double six” or “double zero” (0-0) in his hand starts, depending on the rules of the game. The next players place stones with the corresponding points (6-1; 6-2; 6-3… or 0-1; 0-2; 0-3…). If there are no suitable stones, then you have to get from the reserve.

If neither player has a 6-6 double in hand, you can start the game with a 5-5 double. If there is not a single double in the hands, they start with the stone with the largest number (for example, 6-5).

The game ends when one of the players places the last stone. It is possible to end the game with a "fish" - this is the name of blocking the calculation, when there are still stones on hand, but there is nothing to report. If you get a two-zero die, you get 25 points. The last player to move ends the game.

The winner is credited with the sum of the points of all the stones in the hands of the losers. When blocking (“fish”), the winner belongs to the one who has the fewest points in his hand. The difference in points is recorded as a win for him. The game continues up to a predetermined amount - say, up to one hundred or one hundred and fifty points.

Varieties of the game

More than 40 different games with dominoes are known in the East. There are dominoes with colored bones, where the color denotes dignity. The names of the games are extremely poetic: "carnations in the fog", "enter the pagoda", "gazelle jump". See Chinese dominoes for details.

In Russia, several varieties of the game have become widespread, differing from each other in the ways of scoring points, victory conditions, etc.

The most popular type of game.

The game is played by two to four players. Each player receives 7 tiles. The player starts the game with a 1-1 double in a four-player game, or the lowest double otherwise. The last stone from the reserve is not taken. The next draw is started by the player who won the previous round or announced the fish. The losers in each draw write down the amount of points on their remaining bones on their account. To start recording, you need to score at least 13 points.

The player who first scored 101 points is declared the "goat" - the loser. Sometimes 4 players play in pairs. In this case, players sitting diagonally opposite each other play in the same team.
