What google maps hide. Google Maps (Google Maps)

The era of creating high-quality interactive maps based on satellite imagery began on October 24, 1946. After entering a suborbital trajectory, an automatic V-2 rocket launched in the United States took a series of images of the Earth from an altitude of 65 miles using a film camera.

Sputnik-1, the first artificial Earth satellite, was launched into orbit in the USSR on October 4, 1957. After this event, it became possible to take satellite photos of the Earth.

Today, the use of satellites has become an integral part of modern society. The shooting quality has reached the highest level and everyone, without leaving the monitor, can explore any corner of the world. About satellites and satellite maps high resolution details can be found in the articles:

  • Earth online
  • The first satellite photograph of the Earth was taken by the American satellite Explorer 6 in August 1959.

The US Armed Forces were interested in the opportunities that opened up with the development of satellite communications and navigation devices, so they used enormous funds to promote this topic.

In August 1960, President D. Eisenhower created the Missile and Satellite Systems Directorate, which was later renamed the National Intelligence Agency - NRU.
The first reconnaissance flights over the territory of the Soviet Union showed the failure of this venture, and it was decided to send forces to study satellite tracking systems.
Spacecraft with special equipment on board were launched into Earth's orbit and scanned the planet's surface.
Initially, it was necessary to return the captured film from satellite systems using transport aircraft. The first successful re-entry of the film was from the Discoverer-14 satellite launched into orbit on August 18, 1960. After the reentry capsule was launched from the satellite on its 17th orbit, a C-130 transport aircraft caught it in the air on the third approach using a special trawl.
Between 1960 and 1972, 145 satellites were launched, including the KH (Key Hole) spy satellites.
This whole system was very expensive, launching satellites into orbit, returning film, a long time interval between photographing objects and receiving data on Earth. In 1976, this problem was resolved with the launch of the improved KH-11 satellite, which made it possible to transmit images from space in real time... In the late 1980s, the improved KH-11 series satellites operating in the infrared region began to operate.
Initially for receiving space images either the classical "photographic" method was used - shooting with a special camera on a light-sensitive film, with the subsequent return of the capsule with the film from Space to Earth, or shooting with a television camera with the transmission of a TV signal to the receiving station.
was received from the TIROS-1 weather satellite in 1960.

At the beginning of 2009, the scanning method prevails, when the transverse sweep (perpendicular to the route of the spacecraft movement) is provided by a scanning (mechanically swinging or providing electronic sweep) mechanism that transmits electromagnetic radiation to the spacecraft sensor, and the longitudinal sweep (along the route of the spacecraft movement) is provided by itself moving the satellite.

Today modern space technologies allow look at the Earth even from space, in real time, online, through a camera installed on Earth's largest satellite, the International Space Station. Detailed information about what can be found:

Nowadays, the use of space imagery is carried out in many areas, from observing agricultural fields to bearing the location of your friends using your phone. Basically for these resources they use google service Maps (Google maps).

Navigation remains the main niche for the use of satellite maps. The blog "Infokart" presents satellite maps of the main cities of Russia, as well as many large cities from around the world. To find the city you are interested in, just enter its name in the search box (top-right) and press enter. All articles in which this city was mentioned will appear on the main page of the site.

What are Google Maps? It is a service that consists of several applications, provided free of charge, and includes a mapping site Google Maps and a route planning program (Google Transit). Google maps offer satellite views for many cities in the world and include a detailed map of the location of streets, houses, routes for travel by public transport or cars, a guide to various objects, and more.

Features of work

Google Maps is displayed in two variations:

  • an ordinary traditional card (analogous to Mercator cards)
  • and satellite images (not on-line, but taken a certain time ago).

The scale of the maps is also based on the Mercator projection, that is, it is constant and changes from the poles to the equator in the direction of decreasing.

Another separate project of the corporation is closely connected with Google Maps - Google Planet, corresponding to a globe, on which the areas of the Earth's poles are clearly visible.

For which places are offered satellite imagery? Not for everyone, but only for the big cities of Russia, England, America, Canada and others.

Not all governments have approved this placement and use of images. That is why many objects on the maps are shaded. Such "classified" objects include, for example, the White House or the Capitol.

Different locations on satellite images are shown in different resolutions - the less populated the area, the less detailed it is. Also, some places in the pictures may be hidden due to the shadow of the clouds.

  • switch to satellite mode - lower left corner;
  • zoom in / out - lower right corner.

As soon as the company introduced a new service, a wave of interest in satellite imagery swept around the world.

The creation of sites began, on which satellite images of interesting places, unusual architectural attractions, stadiums, and anthropogenic formations began to be placed in free access.

Since 2008, the US Weather Service began to use Google Maps to prepare its forecasts.

It should be noted that not all images were taken from the satellite - most of the images were obtained thanks to aerial photography from a height of 300 meters.

Online google maps Maps uses JavaScript extensively. When the user moves around the map by dragging it, new areas are loaded from the server and displayed on the page.

If the user is looking for specific objects, then the search result is inserted in the sidebar, and the page itself does not require a reload. The location on the map is displayed dynamically through a red marker icon.

  • In 2006 the first version for mobile phones appeared, and in 2007 the second version appeared. A service similar to GPS is used to locate the phone.
  • In 2008 yearGoogle Maps could be applied for Android, Windows Mobile, Symbian, BlackBury, Java (from 2+), IOS (Apple), Palm OS (Centro +).
  • In 2011 the corporation announced that it provides mapping services to over 150 million customers.

To enable third-party site owners to use Maps on their site, Google announced a free service in 2005 API Maps (Application Programming Interface).

The map can be placed on any site using this technology for software interaction. Today there are more than 350 thousand such sites around the world.

Google maps is the leader among modern map services providing satellite interactive maps online. At least the leader in the field of satellite imagery and in the number of various additional services and tools (Google Earth, Google Mars, various weather and transport services, one of the most powerful APIs).

In the area of \u200b\u200bschematic maps, this leadership was at some point "lost" in favor of Open Street Maps, a unique mapping service in the spirit of Wikipedia, where every volunteer can enter data on the site.

However, despite this, the popularity of Google Maps remains perhaps one of the highest of all other mapping services. Part of the reason is that Google Maps is where we can find the most detailed satellite imagery for the largest regions of any country. Even in Russia, such a large and successful company as Yandex can not surpass the quality and coverage of satellite photos at least in their country.

With Google Maps, anyone can view satellite photos of the Earth for free almost anywhere in the world.

Image quality

The highest resolution images are usually available for the largest cities in the world in America, Europe, Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Asia, Oceania. High quality imagery is currently available for cities with more than 1 million inhabitants. For smaller cities and others settlements satellite images are only available in limited resolution.

Capabilities

Google Maps or "Google Maps" was a real discovery for Internet users and indeed for all PC users, giving an unheard-of and previously unheard-of opportunity to look at their house, their village, cottage, lake or river where they had a rest in summer - from a satellite. To see it from above, from such an angle, from which it would be impossible to look under any other circumstances. The discovery, the very idea of \u200b\u200bgiving people easy access to satellite photos, fits in harmoniously with Google's general concept of "making it easy for all users to access any information on the planet."

Google maps allow you to see from the satellite at the same time those things and objects that cannot be observed simultaneously when observing from the ground. Satellite maps differ from the usual ones in that on simple maps colors and natural forms of natural objects are distorted by editorial processing for further publication. However, satellite photographs preserve all the naturalness of nature and objects of photography, natural colors, shapes of lakes, rivers, fields and forests.

Looking at the map, one can only guess what is there: a forest, a field or a swamp, while on a satellite photo it is immediately clear: objects, as a rule, of a round or oval shape, of a unique swamp color, are swamps. Light green spots or areas in the photo are fields, and dark greens are forests. With sufficient experience in navigating in Google Maps, you can even distinguish between coniferous forest or mixed: coniferous has a brownish tint. Also on the map you can distinguish specific broken lines piercing forests and fields of immense Russian expanses - these are railways. Only looking from the satellite can one understand that the railways are much larger highways affect the natural landscape around them. Also in Google Maps, it is possible to superimpose maps with the names of regions, roads, settlements on a national scale and the names of streets, house numbers, metro stations on a city scale on a satellite image of a location or city.

Map Mode and Satellite View Mode

Besides satellite images there is an opportunity to switch to the "map" mode, in which it is possible to view any territory on the surface of the Earth plp study in detail the layout and location of houses of any more or less big city... In the "map" mode it is especially convenient to plan your movements around the city if you have already seen enough satellite views of your city.

The search function by house number will easily point you to the desired house, giving you the opportunity to "look around" the area around this house and how you can approach / approach it. For searching required object just type in Russian in the search bar a query of the form: "City, street, house number" and the site will display the location of the object you are looking for with a special marker.

How to use Google Maps

First, open a place.

To move around the map, left-click on the map and drag it in any order. To return to the original position, press the centering button located between the four directional buttons.

To enlarge the map - click on the button "+" or roll the mouse while the cursor is over the map. You can also enlarge the map double click mouse in the place of interest.

To switch between satellite, mixed (hybrid) and map views, use the corresponding buttons in the upper right corner of the map: Map / Satellite / Hybrid.

"In reality, everything is different than in reality"
Antoine de Saint-Exupery

Everyone who was fond of searching in Google Maps noticed that some parts of the maps, apparently for reasons of secrecy, either have such a low resolution that they cannot be viewed on them, or they are completely retouched.

Today Google Maps is considered "the leader among modern mapping services that provide interactive satellite maps online." We are used to trusting everything that is depicted on these maps, even if the military is hiding there something of their own, especially secret, for security. But companies like Google employ thousands of specialists with appropriate access to secrets, who can not only change the image of objects, but even change the earth's landscape. To level the mountains, fill up the pits, change the shape of the banks, and so on, and we are not talking about computer game, and about maps based on images from space and oceanographic research with echolocation devices.

This is how the northern tip of the Novaya Zemlya archipelago looks now on Google Maps. Pay attention to the chain of "bumps" located under the water near the coast.

Image of Novaya Zemlya archipelago on Google map

“Well, the bumps are in a line, and what's wrong with that,” you say. And the fact that in fact it all looks completely different. This is how it looked on archived Google Maps 2009. On the net you can find full version programs with a map of the Arctic ocean floor and interesting labels (SAS. Planet version 101206), just do not update it.

Any geologist will confirm to you that nature does not like straight lines, symmetrical and identical sequences. And what was erased from the maps can definitely be called man-made objects of the previous "antediluvian" civilizations. This is not a reservation, since the objects that we are now considering at the bottom of the sea were probably on land before the Flood. Estimate the scope and scale of this work! Below is a scale of 50 km. With this resolution, the pyramids of Egypt will be just a grain of sand (they are hardly distinguishable even with a scale of 5 km). The objects at the bottom are several times larger than the pyramids we know.

Imagine for a moment that the pyramids of Egypt were erased from all maps. And what would happen to this country if it lost its main treasure? And if in the same way, on the maps and from the memory of the human Easter island with its idols ...

And what to say about the maps of the Moon or Mars, there you can generally erase whatever you want, until space tourists are brought there.

But back to our exploration at the bottom of the sea.

We see to the left of Novaya Zemlya, at the bottom of the Barents Sea, lines from a chain of "bumps" or whole embankments, individual pits or channels (on the archive map).

Image of the Barents Sea on Google Archive Map

And their complete absence on Google Maps today.

And this is how the Barents Sea looks now (there are no stripes at the bottom)

It should be noted that not all modern maps were so heavily censored. Or did Bing employees lack the strength or resources to edit the underwater part of the map? .. For which we are grateful. Currently all interesting placeswhich I am talking about, you can independently look at Bing Maps (https://www.bing.com/maps) by switching to satellite view.

Although the image is much darker, everything is interesting and so you can see it. Lines of embankments are hundreds of kilometers long. The volume of work performed is gigantic in scale.

Pay attention to the equal distances between adjacent "tubercles" in the chain.

In addition to the objects shown, I would also like to draw your attention to the unusual topography of the seabed of the Arctic Ocean, closer to the North Pole and opposite Chukotka. Here the relief resembles the ruins of a city with a rectangular "quarterly buildings". Here are just "blocks" here measuring tens of kilometers.

"City ruins" at the bottom of the Arctic Ocean

Let me remind you that nature does not like straight lines. And this beauty is also not on Google Maps.

Finally, I want to show the most interesting of the found. This is the geometrically correct location of a whole field of "bumps" located at the bottom of the Arctic Ocean, near the Canadian island of Prince Patrick.

A field of "pyramids" at the bottom near the Canadian island of Prince Patrick on the Bing map

The distance between neighboring "pyramids" is about 5-6 km

Here are two satellite interactive bing Maps and Google Maps.

But I came across such a photo on the net, taken somewhere in the Far North. It is possible that under the water column there are the same "pyramids", only much larger.

If you try to answer your questions: “Who built this? When?", then I can offer you this answer, but not everyone will like it.

Work on the ocean floor could have been done by a previous civilization. Before the first Flood (and there were, apparently, several of them), when the bottom was still dry tens of thousands of years ago.

Legendary Daariya (otherwise: Arctida, Hyperborea, Severia, Arctogea) - these are all the names of the continent that has now gone under water, located at the North Pole.

Hyperborea (located "beyond Boreus", "beyond the north wind") - in ancient Greek mythology, this is the legendary northern country, the habitat of the Hyperborean people.

The ancient Roman scientist Pliny the Elder wrote the following about the Hyperboreans in his "Natural History":

“Behind these (Riphean) mountains, on the other side of Aquilon, a happy people called the Hyperboreans are reaching very advanced years and are glorified by wonderful legends. They believe that there are the loops of the world and the extreme limits of the circulation of the luminaries. The sun shines there for six months, and this is only one day when the sun does not hide (as the ignorant would think) from the spring equinox to the autumn one, the luminaries there rise only once a year at the summer solstice, and set only at the winter one. This country is all in the sun, with a fertile climate and is devoid of any harmful wind. Homes for these residents are groves, forests; the cult of the Gods is managed by individuals and by the whole society; there is no discord or disease of any kind. Death comes there only from satiety with life. "

Note: Riphean (Ripeysk) mountains - the Ural ridge.

Various sources have information about this country, although they call it differently. The ancient Indian epics also described the country of the Gods, where the sun does not set for six months.

Today, a copy of Daaria's map has survived, which was copied by Gerard Mercator from the wall of one of the pyramids in Giza (Egypt), published by his son Rudolph in 1595. The maps of Mercator, a Flemish cartographer and geographer, were mostly used by medieval sailors.

Gerard Mercator's map depicting Daariya at the North Pole of the Earth

In conclusion, I would like to say that in connection with the extensive studies of the bottom of the Arctic Ocean in search of hydrocarbons, our scientists (and the military) have already accumulated enough material. But neither the academicians from the Russian Academy of Sciences, nor the Russian Geographical Society (under the leadership of Sergei Kuzhugetovich Shoigu) are in no hurry to share the information they have received. The Subpolar Urals are very interesting, and the Arctic coast itself, but it was "cleaned up" on all maps thoroughly. But there, according to knowledgeable people, there is a lot of interesting things. They say that geologists in the circumpolar regions were forbidden to "lift their eyes from the ground", to examine the ruins of ancient cities and megalithic structures, and even more so to tell about everything they saw.

Exploration of the underwater ridges of the Arctic Ocean

Now times have come, our country is gaining independence again. Modern military bases are being built beyond the Arctic Circle in the Arctic, along the entire Northern sea \u200b\u200broute the coastal infrastructure is being restored and renewed. Geological exploration is underway on the offshore shelf, and natural gas is being produced. Plants for the liquefaction of gas, which we supply abroad, are already operating. But this is all for the sake of the commercial component, which brings income to companies and taxes to the country's budget.

So let us not forget about the great heritage of the land we live on and our history. This is our territory, which means our heritage.
